Policy and Governance
One of the most pressing issues of our time is climate change. The world over is feeling the effects of climate change, and Nepal is no exception. Millions of Nepalese people's livelihoods are being affected by the melting of glaciers, shifting patterns of rainfall, and rising temperatures, particularly in rural areas.
The Problem:
Nepal's economy is primarily driven by agriculture and tourism, both of which rely heavily on the country's natural resources. However, these resources and livelihoods are being threatened by climate change. Water scarcity, crop failure, and landslides brought on by shifting weather patterns are contributing to food insecurity and economic instability.
Programs
Necessity of the Program: A multifaceted approach is essential when dealing with climate change. Our carbon footprint must be reduced, sustainable practices must be promoted, and resilience to climate change must be developed. In order to combat climate change in Nepal, a number of programs have been developed by the Himalayan Peace Foundation.
Fertilizing the Soil
Target Groups: Local Governments, Farmers and households.
Short-Term Effect: Increased awareness of the significance of reducing waste and using sustainable farming methods.
Long-Term Effect: Improved food security, decreased waste, increased crop yields, and increased soil fertility.
Education and Awareness
Target Groups: Children, Women and Young Adults
Short-Term Effect: Expanded mindfulness about the effects of environmental change and the significance of manageable practices.
Long-term Result: Increased awareness and understanding of the impacts of climate change.
Outcomes
Increased awareness and understanding of the impacts of climate change, as well as the significance of taking action to reduce our carbon footprint and build resilience, are the expected short-term outcomes of these programs.
Reduced greenhouse gas emissions, increased adoption of sustainable practices, enhanced livelihoods, and increased resilience to the effects of climate change are the long-term outcomes.
Our programs target a variety of groups, such as local governments, rural communities, schools, community centers, local farmers, households, children, and young adults. We are building Nepal that is more resilient and sustainable by involving target groups on the ground level. Our programs are focused on the effects of climate change are minimized and the benefits of sustainable practices are maximized.
